MOF HEADQUARTERS, PASABRILLO — The MOF Games B3 2021 have officially been announced by the organization's President, Nicolás Millán, this evening as the organization activates its plan to get esports events rolling out. After months of stagnancy following the death of Former President Nicholas Randouler, the organization took on maintaining his legacy of reviving an age-old micronational tradition completely virtually.
The Announcement Ceremony was historically a MOF tradition that is used to garner support and attention. This year, the organization went above and beyond with an entire video to raise awareness of the games.
The games were originally canceled following all but the death of activity in Posaf, its supposed host, until El Dorado and Iustus made a joint bid to join them in organizing the games. Since then, various announcements were made internally and to important contacts to garner initial support.
The games are set to occur throughout April. Before the games, a series of qualifiers and other tournaments will happen as part of sweeping reforms to the tiebreaker systems following the abolition of the controversial coin toss system. The new system will use a record of five matches to determine who will advance. The cylete with more wins advances. If the number is the same, a tie is broken by each cylete selecting a player from a neighboring bracket. If their player wins, they also advance.
The games will also feature four brand new events on top of the existing ones, including Hearts of Iron 4, courtesy of the Wincott Cup, two Minecraft events (Spleef and Archery), and a 10-kilometer run, known as the Greenhill Road Race. This marks the first time any athletic event will be held by the MOF following the cancellation of Iustus 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic.
The bidding process for the 2022 Games will also begin in the coming weeks, and with both Iustus and El Dorado unable to bid due to hosting the previous year, it will be interesting to see who the biggest contenders will be.
2021 will be the second year that El Dorado hosts the games, following its largely controversial and formative games in 2019. The Government has vowed that it will not make the same mistakes again.
These developments have also become part of the Liu Cabinet's Plan Dorado, the Government's response to falling activity rates and government inefficiency. The plan includes the promotion of Millanic culture to the outside world as a soft diplomacy strategy. The games will prove to be a crucial step in the success of the plan, and their failure could result in embarrassment abroad.
When asked by the Herald, Emperor Austin I of Iustus said that his government was "proud for our nation to be hosting the 2021 Games along with our co-hosts. We look forward to the games and we hope to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone." The Minister of Culture, Jack Satterfield, released a statement:
"I heard from the MOF President today that we're hosting the Olympics — again. So excited to see the games come back to El Dorado. I'm excited to make this a great event, as always done by the Federation, on behalf of the Confederation."
