ELECTION RESULTS: LIVE UPDATES

Updated: Dec 5, 2020

6 Dec, 11:00am GMT

The Union of Millania and New Granada and Lands Represented by the Crowns of the Council of Four will be reorganizing into the Confederation of El Dorado, according to Millania's latest referendum. The Government has set the date for change to be December 15.

This landmark result will change the national image of Millania and its Monarchy, which will also take on a new set of titles. The Confederation will involve a changed legislature, reforming the Terataga into the National Diet, or Corte Nacional, which will keep the same Millanic name. The Diet will change the systems used by the Senate, which will alleviate parties of rules restricting who can be a member. Additionally, Millania itself may also adopt a section of the legislature to additionally legislate for Millanian affairs.

Most international organisations will be informed early on, followed by nations with diplomatic treaties with Millania.

But most importantly Millania will be taking on a full fledged culture, complete with a new Regnal Calendar, numbering system, national sport, and even its own musical styles, namely the Bambuco Millanico.

This also means that the Council of Four will finally come into play in politics, with a much greater say from Millania's other five realms, Charlbrough, Yochtia, Anderssonia, Cordrica, and Kayutsastan; as well as Millania's spanish-speaking minority, which will over time achieve various political benefits including a special seat in the national legislature and separate elections.

The Union also voted to recognise the Republic of China (only on the island of Taiwan) and the State of Palestine as sovereign, the former being a long debated topic. Millania will finally stand up to Beijing and pursue its own diplomatic path.

In an overwhelming majority, the recognition of Taiwan will push Millania further into its newfound anti-China stance after in earlier months all Hong Kong claims were made extraterritorial after the passage of the National Security Law. This shows the overwhelming opposition of Millanians to the Chinese government

The recognition of Palestine, while far less important, is also important to its diplomatic strategy in the middle east, where it will take a far more pro-Arab stance in a break with its diplomatic alignment with Colombia. While successful, however, the referendum did not reach a simple majority.

The results of the referenda are expected to come out today at 11:00am GMT. These will dictate the biggest change in Millanian history, the Plan Dorado, which entails a name change, changes to the Imperial titles, the legislature, activity measures, finally disconnecting Millania from the national government, etc.

Another pending result is that of the recognition of Taiwan. This issue has been particularly contentious since mid 2020 when the National Security Law was instated in Hong Kong, the place of Millania's extraterritorial capital, Pasabrillo.

Chancellor Zoey Liu was informed just a few hours ago of her victory. She thanked CEdM for running the elections smoothly, and vowed to prepare her acceptance speech.

About an hour earlier, Opposition Leader Elect Thomas O'Reilly watched his narrow loss live, and reportedly took it very well. He is already in action creating an amended agenda which is said to include heated social issues such as abortion.

4 Dec, 9:45am GMT

Opposition Leader-Elect Thomas O'Reilly, C, has selected Thomas Andersson, Ind., to join his coalition in the loan seat that they won. This means that the only seat left to be selected is the Imperial Representative, which will now likely go to Charlotte Baxter-Bray, CB.

Jack Satterfield, N, will join Millán, M, in the Senate as the opposition leader. The Liberals have yet to submit their pick for Senate, and have not yet indicated the choices.

On the half-anniversary of the death of Nicholas Cordrey, former Chancellor of Millania and pioneering micronationalist of the 2018 intake, The results of the 2020 December General Elections were released to the public. Nicholas Cordrey had fiercely criticised the electoral system, resulting in changes and vast improvements to the system.

In memoriam, Nicholas "Nick Randouler" Cordrey, 2004-2020.

After reluctance from most press agencies to call the election, it had been revealed that they were right to do so since the margin of victory was a slim 3 votes after four rounds of counting. Zoey Liu has clinched the win for Chancellorship by the closest margin in history, of less than five percent. The shock performance of Conservative Thomas O'Reilly contributed to this, where in his home realm of Kayutsastan, the second most populous realm, he received almost the entire vote of a stunning 100% turnout. Yochtia, on the other hand, was the tipping point for Liu, where she received a large margin of the votes from the newly reformed and active realm.

Even with Thomas' loss, he has secured the most conservative votes in Millanian history, even beating out Nicholas Cordrey, the bastion who kept the right alive and kicking in Millania. He also has the most seats and the second largest vote percentage. It is clear that the right has risen from the dead to new heights, even with the loss of its greatest leaders. This serves as a warning sign to the Liberals; if they keep the inactivity streak up, their days are numbered.

An incredible loss for the other three candidates, however, is seen, with Baxter-Bray and Satterfield both unable to receive enough votes to qualify for the third round, and Andersson, with a fair share of second place votes, lost to the momentum gained by the Liberals when Conservatives leap-frogged them in votes.

As for the legislature, the first ever deadlock government is at hand, with a 4-3 seat split, and a left-wing candidate widely expected to be chosen for the Imperial Representation. Negotiating with the Conservatives will be crucial to Liu's success this term. Marketists and NCP also secured a seat apiece.

A new age has come with new issues, and with a larger than ever population, Zoey Liu will have to find new ways to increase activity and participation. Fortunately for her, a plan to be brought forward by Lord Chamberlain Nicolás Millán will already boost numbers in the legislature. Additionally, she will need to push to deregister inactive citizens — and figure out a way to discern who is active and who is not.

Foreign power has also become Millania's leading issue, for it has become clear that though it was one of the pioneering nations of the new age of micronations, it receives no credit due to its weak diplomatic position. The Union must see itself at the bargaining tables this term to gain back prestige.

Millania's population of Colombians, the backbone of the nation, have also been excluded nearly entirely from politics. The bilingual nation will need to improve language support for the population, and maybe even have special representation for them in the legislature.

Kayutsastan is also an increasingly dissenting region, a worrying sign for the National Government. But over time, pro-independence voters are being informed that the autonomy of Kayutsastan is not being threatened. Liu will have to work with Kayut officials to further integrate the new realm into Millania's already cosmopolitan society.

Overall, the Liu victory is bittersweet. Zoey will have another term in office, but her government will have much less power than before, even with the keystone Imperial seat. O'Reilly as opposition leader will push her to abide by the promises Millania gave to the other realms, and improve the participation of all Millanians in politics and otherwise.

4 Dec, 5:43am GMT

CEdM reports two outstanding seats — Oriente y Bolivar, a loan seat this year, and the Imperial Representative. Parties and Imperials will have to decide who they will choose out of the losing candidates, or even new faces, for these seats.

Senate appointments will also occur soon, where the two winning parties will select their representatives. It is likely that the Conservatives, low on politicians, will select one among the Tribunes to sit there as well.

Additionally, for the third time in history, the 50% rule was implemented, used in 2017 (where six people voted) and 2019. This means that the election will be tantalizingly close.

4 Dec, 5:39am GMT

Results have been set to be released 5:00pm Pasabrillo time, or 9:00am GMT. A comprehensive report on electoral security and result breakdowns from region to region will be available over the weekend.
