Election Season Arrives, Candidates Start Campaigns

Election season has sprung in Millania, and candidates are already taking to declaring their intents. General Elections have been set for the 2nd of June, 2019, which means that Campaign Season has begun, and polls are rolling out to the general public. This year's elections have already been full of surprises on all sides of the political spectrum.

In a shock move, Lord General Thomas Andersson has thrown himself in the ring as an independent, the first time he has been actively involved in politics aside from his war efforts, which awarded him multiple military honours and a Peerage. Jack Satterfield has also returned to politics, along with the long gone Republican Party. This right-wing party is known for having historically strong opposition to the Liberals and a strong alignment with the Conservatives. Incumbent Chancellor Charlotte Baxter-Bray is also standing for the CBBP, and is expected to get a large percentage of votes.

The Communist Party has also brought a new candidate to the table, Commodore Chau Khang. The East has shown strong support for Communists in previous elections. New candidate Tom Kap of the Topek Party has also announced his candidacy. These candidates have a much slimmer chance at seats, but are expected to do relatively well.

Newton von Uberquie, Emperor of Abelden and well respected micronational figure, has also announced his candidacy and a new Political Party, Millanian Social Ecology. This party poses a significant threat to CBBP, and Liberals.

Crown Prince Nicolás (Marketist) and Princess Antonia (Paisa! Bloc, known for strong cultural pride) have also been approved by the Imperial Family to run in elections on the condition that they both do not run for Chancellor.

Marketist Risa Resnick has decided not to stand in the upcoming elections, upsetting recent balance in the Marketist Party. They will have to find a new candidate for Chancellor quickly, or allow the seat to be taken by other parties. Austin Jaax has also stated his intent to run, but not to run for Chancellor, leaving the Liberals in the same position.

The Conservative Party has also yet to bring a candidate, although rumor has it that Nicholas Randouler might stand again. Other candidates that are expected to run are Liberal Jackson Mariano, Communist Ethan Leung, Conservative Connor Smith, Aidan Mefford, and Liberal Edmund Howell.
